LSU wins the first women’s basketball championship in school history with a score of 102-85.

US News, April 3, 2023.  The LSU Womens Basketball team has won their first National Championship! The Tigers’ 102-85 win over Iowa notches the first men’s or womens basketball National Championship in LSU History, and their 102 points are the most in National Championship game history! 

LSU Head Coach Kim Mulkey guided the team to its first Final Four victory in six tries on Friday. Mulkey put together nine transfers and freshmen in an effort to “Pie It 2gether” in her second season in Baton Rouge. Two days later, she guided the state’s premier university to its first NCAA Basketball Championship, giving LSU Athletics, which has been around for 130 years, its 50th team national championship.

Mulkey had previously won championships at Baylor in 2005, 2012, and 2019; this was her fourth triumph in as many appearances in title games.

The Tigers will take charter flight from Dallas to Baton Rouge on Monday at around 10 a.m. CT. There will be welcome-home celebration at the Maravich Center at around 12:30 p.m. CT (view on SEC Network+). 
Soon, information will be released on national championship celebration that will take place on the LSU campus.
In Women’s Final Four game, LSU (34-2) scored the most points ever thanks to 54.3 percent field goal percentage (38 of 70), including 11 of 17 from three-point range.  The 187 total points scored was also Final Four record.
Iowa (31-7) hit 50% of its field goal attempts (28 of 56).
