Dr. Navin Joshi, USNews, 26 March 2023. Following a severe tornado that tore through Mississippi and left at least 25 people dead there as well as one in Alabama, U.S. President Joe Biden issued an emergency declaration for the state on Sunday.
According to a White House statement, Biden directed federal assistance to support regional recovery efforts being led by municipal, state, and tribal governments. According to the announcement, the funding will be accessible to those in need in the counties of Carroll, Humphreys, Monroe, and Sharkey.

When deadly tornadoes tore through the Mississippi Delta region two days prior, destroying small villages and killing more than twenty-dozen people, the South braced for yet another wall of severe weather on Sunday.

Early on Sunday, search and rescue crews kept sifting through the debris. During a tornado, at least 25 people perished.
As a tornado tore through the Mississippi Delta late Friday, reducing most of it to rubble and leaving a path of destruction in one of the poorest parts of the country, trees fell, roofs collapsed, and power wires and poles listed perilously over highways.

Alabama lost one man, and Mississippi lost at least 25 individuals.
A flying chunk of wood that smashed into Andrew Dennard’s Rolling Fork home, breaking glass as it did so, said, “It sounded like a goods train,” the 28-year-old said. Dennard continued, “I don’t think we’re going to rebuild from this.” It is worse than dying.
